About
The web isn’t all about seriousness
As well as informing us all about the world’s news events and changed the way we work, the Internet has enhanced our social lives in a dramatic way. The face of home entertainment is constantly evolving, thanks to the information superhighway. Instant communication has become commonplace, and one of the end results of that is the dramatic reduction in the number of letters that are sent through the post.
Many people now use their computers to download movies and television shows to watch as and when they choose. The picture quality of many modern laptops is good enough to see all that’s needed, and of course the convenience is a major factor. As the technology develops, monitors may end up with screens that are as good as those on top of the range TVs.
Social networking sweeps the globe
Meanwhile, social networking is proving to be immensely popular. Sites such as Bebo enabled computer users to make their own pages for others to see, and to view those of their friends. They proved an instant hit, with millions around the world joining in. Facebook, developed in America in 2006, now has more than 400 million users.
In the UK, Friends Reunited gave computer users the opportunity to catch up with old school friends and work colleagues. For many, it gave a fascinating insight into the eventual fates of those they knew in their younger years.
Emails are as much about humour as they are about communication
As well as social networking, humour plays an important role in many Internet applications. Virals, photos or video clips that can be emailed around the world, often feature bizarre, hilarious or even downright crude sights. Those that prove to be particularly popular can be seen by millions of people in a single day.
