An Online World

How an online world takes over the real one

Since its inception, the growth in acceptance of an online world has had a dramatic effect on our lives. For many people, especially those in the more developed countries, the Internet has made so many changes that there’s no chance now of ever getting by without it. Whether we’re at work or at home, the worldwide web has transformed so many aspects of the world around us.

Living our lives on the Internet

For example, a typical day for some people begins with logging on to the Internet first thing in the morning to check emails and to look at the day’s news. We check the train times before setting off for work, as well as the weather sites to see if we need to take an umbrella. As soon as we get to work we check emails again, then settle into the tasks of the day.

When we get home, again checking that the trains are running on time, we do a little surfing to see if there’s anything interesting on TV or at the cinema, perhaps order in a pizza online, then arrange the weekly grocery shopping via the website of one of the major supermarket chains. Then, when the evening’s over, we check emails yet again before heading off to bed.

Online life isn’t just about work

At the weekends, we may look for new clothes on the web, and perhaps do a little online gambling. On Saturday night, we head to a restaurant, having checked their menu and booked a table via their Internet pages. Slowly but surely, the web is playing a bigger role in our lives.
