Home study for mums

I have always had a keen interest in studying. I think it stems from when I was growing up and my parents always took a strong interest in our education.

Studying is not something I feel I have to do but is something I want to do. After I had my kids I wanted to go back to learning, and there are so many options for home study that I wasn’t sure where to start.

I think that studying when you are home with kids is a great idea. My mum did it when I was young too. It is great because it gives you something to focus your mind on and is a diversion away from the trials and tribulations of parenthood. You are also setting a great example to your kids, in that they will see that learning is a special experience that should be embraced and encouraged.

A Levels and distance learning

A levels are a very respected qualification, demonstrating skills and knowledge to employers and universities.

If you left school without any A levels, you may think you are stuck where you are, but this could not be further from the truth. Many types of adult learning is available.

Distance learning, for example, allows you to study in your own home at your own time, using resources such as the Internet to interact with tutors.

This has been embraced by other educational institutions, not just specialist distance learning companies.

For example, Edinburgh University recently had a virtual graduation ceremony for distance learning students.
