How to Knit with Plastic Bags

If you have lots of plastic bags lying around and youre trying to use cloth bags more often, why not use them up by knitting with them? Its relatively easy and results in a strong fabric.

First, cut the handles off the bag, then cut down through the plastic body in a spiral formation to create one long continuous strip of yarn. You then knit or crochet with the bags in the same way as if you were using wool.

You can use lots of different coloured bags to create colourful designs. Why not find a pattern for a shopper bag and knit one of those? That way you wont need to get a plastic bag next time you go to the supermarket.

Use a can crusher and save space

In every household in Britain, aluminium drinks cans are used with increasing regularity. Most people these days tend to recycle the tins afterwards, thereby helping the environment. However, they take up a lot of space in recycling bins and boxes, so a can crusher is the ideal space-saving solution.

Usually mounted on the wall, the crusher can squash cans to a fraction of their previous size, enabling you to store many more than you could in the past. It can mean an end to overflowing recycling containers once and for all.

Make recycling easy with a can crusher

I recently bought a can crusher and found it is an excellent piece of practical fun as well as being good for helping the environment. Recycling cans is so important, but in the past I had to carry round bulging bin bags of clattering cans to my local recycle centre, leaving a trail of fizzy drink residue behind me.

Well, not any more! With a simple and deeply satisfying pull on my can crusher, my bulky can gets well and truly compressed.

My can crusher is a simple yet effective wall-mounted device. Cans are reduced to around 1/5 of their original size, and best of all it makes recycling really fun.
